(B&CSC), is an all-volunteer nonprofit that began operating in 2005 to preserve, interpret and support industrial maritime heritage efforts in the Helen Delich Bentley Port of Baltimore and Chesapeake Bay Region. All donations are tax deductible to the full extent of the law.

The B&CSC is active in participating and sponsoring a variety of events, lectures, and programs. It also provides docents to the Nuclear Ship Savannah and is a co-sponsor of Baltimore’s National Maritime Day Port EXPO aboard the N.S. Savannah. There is something here for everyone – and we need lots of help to work on our museum collection and archives, outreach, educational programming, and more.

Charles D. Gaither, The B&CSC’s historic vessel, the 1940 M/V CHARLES D. GAITHER, a gift from Mr. & Mrs. Vernon ‘Pete’ Johnson.
Launched at Spedden Shipbuilding, Canton in Baltimore Harbor on July 23rd. 1940 as Balto. City Police Dept’s 1st all-steel patrol boat that later also served as a Balto. City Fire Dept. battalion chief’s command vessel. GAITHER plied the waters of Baltimore harbor for 31 yrs. 
 

The B&CSC traces its roots back to its members’ long-standing assistance efforts with preserving the last operational coal-fired steam tug in North America, the 1906 tug BALTIMORE. The BALTIMORE is owned and maintained by the Baltimore Museum of Industry.
